If you were to ask someone what the opposite of love is, most of the time they would say something like hate, anger! Something that we would think would be the opposite of love.
But in administrative policies, especially when we're looking at God vs Satan the devil: if you look at the opposite of God's policy of love, generosity, kindness, support, caring, advancements, aid, assistance, teaching, education, Satan's method would be more life fear, fear mongering, dearth, shortness, thwarting, problems and hatred.
Satan has his doctrine, rather than God's doctrine of love, which is a doctrine of fear. That's how he rules and teaches his minions to rule. That's how the people who are subject to him on this earth rule.
That's not saying that there's not a proper fear of the Lord, and we will cover that later. But Satan wants a domination type of fear. He wants to put us under his thumb and make sure that we are subordinated to him no matter what. He doesn't allow us free-thinking; no free thought, we have to think his thought.
There's free thought under that. You can have any perversion and diversion that you want underneath Satan's rulership of fear.
Whereas on the other hand, God gives us the opportunity for free thought, the opportunity to make choices, to look at things and analyze and to choose what we wish to do. Satan doesn't offer that option.
I would like to compare these two leadership styles through Scripture, specifically showing that the devil's leadership style is that of fear instead of love. We know the old acronym for fear: false evidence appearing real!
God's method of love, kindness, support, encouragement, which what we should be doing to those around us: our mates, children, co-workers, and anybody we come in contact with. We should be reflecting that love that comes down from God, and it should be going outward to other people. That way, we would be reflecting God and His love and Who He is.
After all, we know that God says, on more than one occasion though His Word, that God is love! That's His whole character and persona. That's how He governs His life. That is His character: LOVE!
When we are following God and His way of love, we see that what we're actually doing is exhibiting and exercising His faith that He's imbued us with, and that faith supersedes all of the false evidence that appears real under Satan's rule.
Our reality of God's Truth and understanding is far more real than Satan's law and doctrine of fear. His reality is negativity, hatred, anger, insubordination and rebellion. That's not God's way!
We're going to be looking at the converse options of leadership methods between God the Father and Jesus Christ—Whose method and law is love—vs Satan's doctrine of fear.
Hebrews 2:9: But we see Jesus… [10]: …because it was fitting for Him, for Whom all things were created, and by Whom all things exist… [tie in John 1:1-3; Rev. 1-2] …in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Author of their salvation perfect through sufferings."
It talks about suffering in v 9, but who are the sons of glory? Those are those whom He's working with and training and bringing right along on the path to Godliness; you and I, and that's all the saints down through history and time who have made it!
Verse 11: "For both He Who is sanctifying and those who are sanctified are all of one…"
Who is Jesus sanctifying and who has been sanctified? We know that all the saints down through time, the Prophets, King David, all of the Patriarchs, Abraham, and those who have died in the faith are the sanctified! They've already made it into sanctification.
Who is He sanctifying now? If He's working with you through His Spirit, then you are being sanctified now! He is sanctifying you. It doesn't matter if you have the Holy Spirit, you could ba child growing up in the Church, a new convert, somebody looking into it, if God is working in your life, He is beginning to sanctify you.
Take that to heart, and should be an encouragement. We are being sanctified, set apart, made Holy! Isn't that excellent? There's no room for fear in that.
"…for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren" (v 11).
Remember that the Pharisees and Sadducees wanted to stone Jesus for blasphemy. What was He blasphemous in saying? That God was His Father, thus making Him on the same par/level as God, and here Jesus was a mere mortal, a human. So, how could Jesus, a mere mortal, put Himself on the level of God? It was because of this that they were wanting to stone Him to death!
John 20:17: "Jesus said to her, 'Do not touch Me, because I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brethren…'"
He was calling the disciples—who did not have God's Holy Spirit, yet, at the time—His brethren! When the disciples showed up in Acts 2 there were 120 followers. What a generous God that is! Amazing! That Jesus Christ would include us as brothers/sisters!
"…and tell them that I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God" (v 17).
Jesus was putting us in the same level of potential Godship and brotherhood and sonship between us and the Father.
Jesus was a mere mortal, an amazing mortal, the most fantastic mortal that ever lived: sinless! But God the Father was still His God, just as He is our God.
Not only is He our God, but He is also our Father just as He was for Jesus Christ. That's just so amazing and humbling in my mind.
Hebrews 2:11: "…for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying… [how He's encouraging us that we are His brethren] …'I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the Church I will sing praise to You'" (vs 11-12)—the called out ones, the 'ecclesia' in the midst of the congregation.
I suspect that He will be singing our name, declaring our name, His brethren, to God the Father in the Congregation of the Holy in the Holy Place. He will sing praise to us!
You can make an argument that He is actually referring to God the Father, that He's going to be singing the praise to. But in Zech. 3 it says that 'the Father will sing over us in praise, and He will joy over us in singing.
Verse 13: "And again, 'I will be trusting in Him.'…. [you too can trust in God] … And again, 'Behold, I and the children… [you and me] …whom God has given Me.' Therefore, since the children are partakers of flesh and blood, in like manner He also took part in the same, in order that through death He might annul him who has the power of death—that is, the devil" (vs 13-14).
So, He's replacing the devil as the King and Ruler of this world.
Verse 15: "And that He might deliver those who were subject to bondage… [of Satan the devil under the slavery of sin] …all through their lives by their fear of death."
If you don't think you have sin, think again! (1-John). What Paul says in Rom. 7 where he talks about the 'law of sin and death' and still had to fight all of these urges and drudgery. James 1 talks about the process of sin. Why is he warning us against sinfulness and that we could possibly not make it unless that's the case it's possible that we might not make it.
When Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenberg and these were points of error that the Catholic Church was making that needed to be corrected. So, there was all this push with so many Protestants that were coming out of this revolution and they were making statements. They knew that things needed to change, but they took it so far that Calvin came up with a doctrine that God is so righteous and so Supreme and Sovereign that if He chooses you, you don't have the right to reject His calling!
So, out of that was bred once saved always saved! So, we're not Calvinists! We recognize that we could lose out.
Verse 15: "And that He might deliver those who were subject to bondage all through their lives by their fear of death."
We were subjects of bondage, under Satan's power of death and we were fearful of that. Satan rules with fearfulness. He's a terrorist. He hates us and does not want us to succeed and does not want God's people to succeed, win or to become God's children.
So, Satan is going to do everything he can, and thus we fear dying. So, when we're coming to the ends of our lives, if it comes to that and we die of a nice ripe old age, we don't necessarily want to die. But on the other hand:
- Wouldn't that be so many roses?
- Wouldn't that be wonderful not to fight anymore in this life?
Here Paul is telling us that we were subjected to bondage all through our lives and we were fearful of death. No more do you need to be fearful of death! Your hope and salvation is in the Creator God!
2-Timothy 1:7: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of sound-mindedness."
Romans 8:15: "Now, you have not received a spirit of bondage again unto fear…"
Isaiah 41:10: "Do not fear; for I am with you; be not dismayed…"
- whatever comes down the pike
- whatever problems that will be leveled against you
- whatever accusations of impropriety
- if you're arrested
- if you're tortured
- if you're persecuted
Whatever happens, do not "…be not dismayed…" by their angry faces. Why?
"…for I am your God. I will strengthen you; yea, I will help you; yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness" (v 10).
I spent a little time in Heb. 2 because I think it's so important for us to realize that Jesus Christ had three positives where Jesus calls us His brother/sister; and we have had three affirmations from God saying that He's going to support us.
Isaiah 54:14: "In righteousness you shall be established; you shall be far from oppression; for you shall not fear… [Satan's rule and doctrine] …and far from terror… [Satan is a terrorist and wants to strike fear] …for it shall not come near you."
I hate horror movies; I've never gotten into them. Sadly, my daughter who is not associated with God, Truth and the Church; she has chosen a worldly way unfortunately, but she loves horror flicks and she gets scared. If she didn't watch those things she wouldn't be fearful. She hears a little noise and 'you jump out of your clothes and run screaming like 'bloody murder' or something.'
"…for you shall not fear; and far from terror, for it shall not come near you" (v 14).
He's going to strengthen us, help us and uphold us!
Psalm 27:1: "The LORD is my Light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?…." Who is going to do anything to you?
- there are gangs roaming the streets
- people are trying to put people in jail
- they're attacking and arresting the peaceful demonstrators in Canada
- they've lowered the age of consent to age 12 for the Covid vaccine for parents authorization
In California your children at age 12 can be vaccinated without you're approval and permission!
Verse 1: "The LORD is my Light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"
Psalm 34:4: "I sought the LORD, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears."
- not some of them
- not a fear or two
- not an occasional fear
- not a maybe fear
John 14:1: "Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it fear."
Verse 27: "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give it to you…."
What is the world's peace? We might have peace for a short time, but then a war comes! We might have peace for a short time then someone is banging on you door, the police, or someone trying to harm you or steal from you.
Have you ever had your house burglarized? We've had that happen! We felt very violated! They broke in while we were asleep and stole stuff. They took the master key so they had access to all the apartments that we were managing at the time. We felt very violated, because we had no control. We thought the locks on our door would protect us, but they did not.
"…Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it fear" (v 27).
Our hope is not in man or the police, or if you have weapons or any type of defense or locks, which are there to keep the honest people out.
Out trust, faith and whole heart is believing in God. That faithfulness is what will be destroy Satan's doctrine of fear.
"…My peace I give to you…" (v 27). Godly peace! The peace of mind that goes beyond all understanding.
"…not as the world gives do I give it to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it fear" (v 27). Don't worry about things!
1-John 4:18: "There is no fear in the love of God…"
We can stop right there and say, 'Thank You, Father, that You so much that I can have Your love toward everybody and toward You and Jesus Christ.
1-John 1:3—we have:"…fellowship with us; for the fellowship—indeed, our fellowship—is with the Father and with His own Son Jesus Christ."
Everybody that we fellowship with, can we not have that love toward others and thus we have no fear?
We don't have to worry about that. There's no fear in love!
1-John 4:18: "There is no fear in the love of God; rather, perfect love casts out fear because fear…"
Jesus died for us so that we could avoid the second death (Heb. 2), which death Satan uses as a constant threat in his administration of fear he can intimidate you. He minimizes the proper fear that we should have for the Lord. There is a proper fear; we need to have the proper fear of the Lord so that we honestly and righteously fear to do evil, have the proper fear of the awesomeness of God.
Satan wants to use that physical fear of harm so that He can impose more fear and His will upon us.
Now let's look at Satan's doctrine of fear a little more deeply. First, we looked at God's positive law of love, that IF we follow His character—Who He is—THEN we will be reflecting His light and that savor so that we would be the salt. Satan inspires a different type of fear!
1-Peter 5:8: "Be sober! Be vigilant! For your adversary the devil is prowling about as a roaring lion, seeking anyone he may devour."
Why does a lion roar when you go to the jungle, if you've ever been to the jungle. It's a rumbling type of loudness that just kind pervades everything. You don't know where he's coming from or where he is. That's scary, and that's what Satan does. He wants to intimidate us and cause us more and more fear.
Cain was very fearful; let's read what happened to him. He rose up and was dissatisfied because his brother Abel gave to God a pleasing sacrifice where his was unacceptable and out of jealousy he rose up and slew his brother.
Genesis 4:8: "And Cain talked with his brother Abel. And it came to pass that when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.
Verse 13: "And Cain said to the LORD, 'My punishment is greater than I can bear.'"
I know I killed my brother, but I've never heard of murder before. I guess I knew that things could die, because he killed the offering. He offered an acceptable animal to You.
Is that a hint that even out of the Garden of Eden as the first man and woman and their progeny knew to offer clean animals to God as a sacrifice? Cain says:
I knew that Abel could be dead, but not that big a deal and now you're going to punish me and everybody is going to try to kill me.
Verse 14: "Behold, You have driven me out from the face of the earth today, and I shall be hidden from Your face. And I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth, and it shall be that anyone who finds me shall kill me."
He was no longer going to be in that protective environment that God still had protection from Adam and Eve and their progeny in that area outside the Garden of Eden.
Now when he goes and other people that he might come in contact with are going to want to kill him. So, what does the Lord say? We see that Cain is fearful:
Verse 15: "And the LORD said to him, 'Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.' And the LORD set a mark upon Cain so that anyone who found him should not kill him."
Cain didn't get away with it; he's still going to have to pay the penalty. He was the first murderer after Satan, the first murderer.
Cain was fearful that people would say that since he was a murderer that he would get the same coming back to him. God said, 'No, seven-fold will come on anyone who killed Cain. That put Cain's mind at ease, I guess. His progeny after him were also ruled by fear. They were scared: Tubal and later Lamech.
Verse 23: "And Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, 'Hear my voice, wives of Lamech, hearken to my words, for I have killed a man because he wounded me, a young man because he hurt me; for if Cain is avenged seven times, then truly Lamech is avenged seventy-seven times'" (vs 23-24).
Maybe he cut him on a sling; maybe he beat him up or broke his arm or leg. Whatever he did, Lamech outdid him. Lamech said, You hurt me, injured me, I'm going to magnified that, it's payback time. He came back later with gun? Bow and arrow? A sword? I don't know. He killed his adversary who had harmed and injured him.
"…if Cain is avenged seven times, then truly Lamech is avenged seventy-seven times" (v 24).
What do we know about how we are to forgive and what we should do as far as forgiveness is concerned.
Matthew 18:21: "Then Peter came to Him and said, 'Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Until seven times?'" I suspect that Peter was being very generous!
Verse 22: "Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you until seven times, but until seventy times seven.'"
- Cain had 7 times avengement
- Lamech had payback of 77 times
- we're supposed to forgive 70 times 7
This unlimited forgiveness that we are supposed to be showing to other people!
Yet, Satan has as a terrorist doesn't do that. His rulership of fear is what Lamech lived by. He says that anybody hurts me, I'm so scared of the potential of dying that I'm going to make sure that I really hurt them back. His perspective of payback is far different as ours should be as far as forgiveness is concerned.
We already mentioned that Satan inspires fear. Ezekiel 28:19: "…you… [Satan] …became a terror…"
Look at the truckers and peaceful protesters in Canada right now, and the people who are hoping to organize a trucker's rally to go to Washington in the U.S. Any other thing that Satan rules by fear, the peaceful demonstrators in Canada have begun being arrested. That's simply terrorism!
You're not listening to us, you have a different opinion so we can't have that, so now we're going to arrest you, torment you and persecute you.
Name one time in history when those who were trying to squelch and curtail free speech, banning books or limiting free will, that those were the good guys? There isn't! Unless it's for righteousness sake! When in the New Testament in Acts they were burning the books that applied to the occult and then the Satan worshippers and those who were making money off of that said, 'Hey, they're taking away our livelihood.' So, that caused problems and caused them not to get rid of the evil.
But de-platforming speakers who have different opinions, podcasts and those who have peaceful and lawful demonstrations, mandating things of any sort, taking away your informed consent, forcing upon you a vaccination that you choose not to have, by your choice, thus violating the Nuremberg Trials. Bill Gates showed—I heard it on a Ted Talk—pictures of brain scans where Christians and people of faith had a spot somewhere in their brain. Gates said that those people were brain-damaged, and those are the ones 'who would give 'us' trouble; those would be the one who would be dangerous and the enemy.'
Yet, God imbues mankind with free will. We have a choice whether or not to obey God or to obey Satan.
Romans 6:16: "Don't you realize that to whom you yield yourselves as servants to obey, you are servants of the one you obey, whether it is of sin unto death…."
- the wages of sins is death
- the law of sin breeds death
"…or of obedience unto righteousness?" (v 16).
So, we have the choice all the time under God's administration of love. Not so under Satan's dominating doctrine of fear.
God allows us to make mistakes. He states the penalty for sin clearly, and then the punishment would 'fit the crime,' He gives us time to recognize what our sin is and gives us time on top of that to repent.
Not Satan! He foments fear, dearth, and entraps us and snares us.
2-Timothy 2:26[transcriber's correction]: "…the devil's snare, who have been taken captive by him to do his will."
When we fall for those temptations that he imposes on us, we are being outwitted.
2-Corinthians 2:11: "So that we may not be outwitted by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes."
2-Corinthians 11:3: "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds might be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."
- How are we going to be corrupted?
- How might we fall into this trap by Satan's craftiness?
Remember Job and all the terrible trials that he went through? Satan was trying to undermine Job's faith. At the beginning it says that the sons of God came to present themselves to God and Satan came also and God says, 'Where have you been?' Just walking to and fro on the face of the earth.
What was he doing walking to and fro on the face of the earth? Walking about as a roaring lion and seeking whom he may devour. He's just wanting to kill, kill us constantly, repeatedly (1-Pet. 5:8).
John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you desire to practice. He was a murderer from the beginning…"
After Jesus stilled the winds and storm in the ocean; Mark 4:40: "And He said to them, 'Why are you so fearful? Why do you not have faith?'"
If you look closely, there's a formula, like math:
- fear=no faith
- faith=no fear
We see that faithfulness cancels Satan's doctrine of fear! Faithfulness cancels out Satan's law of fear! That's a wonderful blessing.
Satan plays his temporal card of the here and now. He wants us to worry about the here and now. He tricks us and makes us feel fear. We think:
- oh no, I have to be audited by the IRS
- or you have lights in your rearview mirror
Think about it, even if there's a ticket, you're not being hauled off to jail for murdering your brother like Cain did. It's a sinking feeling, but it's not that bad! God will see you through. Satan says, 'Oh no, this is terrible! This is bad!
What if you have a bad health report, cancer; Covid, some other very bad sickness and you can't figure out what it is. It doesn't matter. God knows what it is and God can answer it; heal you! God can answer all of your fears. You don't have to worry about your fearfulness.
Satan's doctrine of fear is just temporary. God's law of love is forever! It is eternal! We get there through obedience and faithfulness!
I want us to be encouraged and realize that our anxieties are so temporal. Tomorrow is another day. It rains tonight and there's a bad storm, lightning, thunder; maybe a tree falls on your house. Whatever happens, don't worry about it. God will see you through!
Revelation 2:10: "Do not fear any of the things that you are about to suffer…."
- Is the end-time coming upon us? It is!
- Will we not risk death to go through the Great Tribulation? We will!
- What about the Day of the Lord?
- Will we have suffer through part of that? Some of us will!
- What about Satan's wrath when He gets mad at what's leftover of the last part of the Church? Satan is going to go after them with a vengeance and send an army after them!
We don't have to fear! We can take it easy; we have trust in God!
"…Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried…" (v 10).
We understand that this is actually talking to one of the Churches in time events, but we can use these promises, because we might be thrown into prison. Maybe not! Peter, Paul and some of the other disciples were thrown into prison. Were they not martyred?
"…and you shall have tribulation ten days. Be faithful unto death… [a command] …and I [Jesus] will give you a crown of life. The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who overcomes shall not be hurt of the second death" (vs 10-11). Thank You, God Almighty!
If we have to die this first death; martyrdom of the saint; fifth seal; God is going to see us through. He's going to help us survive that and go through it.
1-John 5:19: "We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the wicked one…. [that's where we are right now, but we have this confidence]: …And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, so that we may know Him Who is true; and we are in Him Who is true, and in His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God, and the eternal life" (vs 19-20).
If you and I have Jesus Christ, we have eternal life. Remember Jesus says, 'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.' What a blessing!
John 10:10: "The thief… [Satan the devil, rules by fear] …does not come except to steal and kill and destroy. I [Jesus] have come so that they may have life, and may have it more abundantly."
My life now, having been living in God, having the Truth and been baptize for many years—around 38—is abundant. I have an abundance that I don't understand and don't deserve. I have peace of mind that goes beyond all understanding. I shouldn't have peace of mind with all the garbage, problems, threats and things that are going on in this earth at this time right now. The potential is very scary.
There's a saying that says, 'I've worried about a lot of things, and some of them actually happened.' My worry didn't prevent them from happening, nor did it cause them to happen. So, my worry is actually a lack of faith and is counterproductive.
So, if we have the faith in God, and we put our faith and trust in Him, then we're capital, clean, good, we're going forward and moving as God would have us to go.
God's character is His law of love! Yet, Satan's path, doctrine and law is fear, hate, evil, destruction, murder, wickedness. Yet, we need not fear! Faithfulness breaks or destroys Satan's fear! What a blessing!
Let's solidify the confidence that we have in God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ Who works in our lives daily. Who answers our prayers, has a plan of salvation, working toward our salvation and Who has already sanctified us. He's already set us apart through His death, and protects us from the second death.
Philippians 4:6: "Do not be anxious about anything; but by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God in everything."
We don't need to be trite, but we can go to God about anything and everything that matters to us. We don't have to be anxious about anything.
Verse 7: "And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."
Colossians 1:3: "We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying for you continually."
That should tell you that the Apostle Paul was praying to God the Father and Jesus Christ for us—his fellow believers—at the time.
Verse 12: "Giving thanks to the Father, Who has made us qualified for the share of the inheritance of the saints in the Light."
How do we qualify to be an inheritor with other saints?
I'm sinful, I'm still carnal, sold unto sin. I still have tyrannical thoughts, problematic and sinful thoughts—lust and greed—what a sinful man I am.
Yet, God has called me and given me His Spirit and allowed me to repent to Him. WOW! Speaking of the Father Who has qualified us to be inheritors of other saints, God the Father:
Verse 13: "Who has personally rescued us from the power of darkness… [and of fear] …and has transferred us unto the Kingdom of the Son of His love."
In God's mind we have already made it into the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Son of His love. That is just so humbling in my mind. I don't know how it affects you, but it just tells me that I have lot to live up to. I strive and I want to strive to achieve this. Might I fall down? Yes, absolutely! I might sin tonight and tomorrow.
But God in His merciful love allows me to repent! I'm not predicated by a law or a doctrine of fear. Hopefully, you too can share in that.
Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage…. [Who was that command given to?] …Do not be afraid, neither be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you in all places where you go."
Do not be frightened! Do not kowtow to Satan's doctrine of fear! Rather, you as a command, be strong and very courageous!
