Understanding prophecy and solving a problem of false doctrine

Greetings, brethren! Welcome to Sabbath services! This Sabbath is the Sabbath before Atonement, and we're going to look at some prophecy and solve a problem that is a false doctrine.
- How do we understand prophecy?
- Are prophecies in the Old Testament, by themselves, complete? No!
We have prophecies in the New Testament!
- Are they by themselves complete? Not quite as much, but generally speaking that's true!
Prophecies of the Passover:
- Where is the first mention of that? The oldest prophecy in the Bible, Gen. 3!
- If you only had the first five books of the Bible, how much would you understand of this prophecy? Very little!
Genesis 3:14: "And the LORD God said to the serpent, 'Because you have done this you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go upon your belly, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed… [rarely do we talk about the children of the devil] …and her Seed; He will bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel" (vs 14-15). That's a prophecy of the crucifixion, which is the crux of the Passover!
- When does this take place?
- How much of the Bible did they have before the Flood? Very little!
- How much did they have after the Flood? Very little!
- Where is the next prophecy of the Passover? Gen. 15 with Abraham and the 14th/15th!
- What is the next one on the Passover? The children of Israel in Egypt!
That commemorated the passing over of the firstborn of the Israelites, and the execution of the Egyptian firstborn!
Am I saying that there were aspects of the Bible written? The things concerning Abraham had to be written down! I'm sure he knew that Gen. 15 was a key part in God's plan. But it's first fulfillment pertains to the children of Israel. Then we have Gen. 22, which is another Passover prophecy, which pertains to Isaac inheriting the promise given to Abraham. But what else? If you just those things written down, then you don't have very much.
Then you come to the next fulfillment of the Passover that is found in Exo. 12. You get a lot of details about it. You get some dates, select the lamb on the 10th, you kill it at the beginning of the 14th and then after you kill it you're to roast it, stay in the house until morning because God was going to pass over and kill the firstborn of Egypt—man and beast—at midnight, and no one was to go out of his house until morning.
There are other observances of the Passover after that. John 3 has to do with the Passover, and since it's related to Jesus entirely, it has to do with the whole plan of God. This coincides almost directly, leaving off Satan in these verses, but what follows after is those who love darkness don't come to the light. So, it does bring in Satan.
John 3:14: "And even as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness… [referenced back to the Old Testament] …in the same way it is ordained that the Son of man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish…" (vs 14-15).
We have covered this many times, when you have the word may, that comes from the Greek subjunctive, meaning that there are conditions.
"…but may have everlasting life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son… [Passover] …so that everyone who believes in Him may not perish, but may have everlasting life" (vs 15-16).
What about all of those people in the 4,000 years before Christ. Literally it means everyone! But how can it apply to those back then.
If you just had the Old Testament and the New Testament without Revelation, you would never know. This is an important thing to understand. Consider that you don't have the New Testament!
- Psa. 22—the very words of Christ on the cross. How would that be fulfilled? You need to the New Testament and the act of dying and everything there!
- Psa. 69—Christ's life was mired in mud because of all the evil.
- Psa. 40—the prophecy of the One Who is God coming in the flesh.
- Psa. 118
- Isa. 9—even the Jews do not understand that this applies to the Messiah.
Isaiah 9:6: "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulders… [a physical man] …and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God… [That's the one that really trips the Jews up. How can a man be God?] …The Everlasting Father…"
That's even more incongruous, but we know that it applies to Christ and He won't become a father until He marries the Church, then all of those who come into the Kingdom of God during the Millennium will be His children. We are the children of the Father today.
"…The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and over His kingdom, to order it and to establish it with judgment and with righteousness from henceforth, even forever…. (vs 6-7).
How can that be if it's a physical man? The Jews to this day are looking for a physical messiah to come, because they don't have the New Testament!
Daniel and the Time of the End
Now let's look at Daniel. All of the things in Daniel come at the end of the age. Here's another one that's interesting.
- When does this take place?
- What does this mean?
Daniel 12:1: "And at that time… [we know that it's time of the end (Dan. 11:40)] …Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands for the children of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even until that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered—everyone who shall be found written in the book."
If you don't know about the Book of Life in the New Testament, and you don't know about the firstfruits in the New Testament, how are you going to understand this one?
Verse 2: "And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."
This sounds like this is at the same time, but that's why you need the New Testament. There is no way you can have—looking at this—a first resurrection, a second resurrection and a resurrection after the Millennium. By the way, there's no place in the Old Testament that tells you that there will be a Millennium.
Satan and his Followers
Also, think on this: In the first five books of the Bible (except for Gen. 1, the serpent) Satan is not mentioned! It just talks about other gods. In the book of Job, it says a lot about Satan, especially the first couple of chapters. Satan has access to God. They have conversations:
'What do you think of My man Job?' Well, he only does it because you're good to him. Take away the goodness and he will curse You to Your face!
But there's very little about Satan in the Old Testament. In the New Testament there's quite a bit.
1-John 3 talks about Satan, and he's called the devil! Here in the New Testament we have a lot of things that are not included in the Old Testament in the same way as in the New Testament. You can find references back and forth, that is true.
1-John 3:1: "Behold! What glorious love the Father has given to us, that we should be called the children of God! For this very reason, the world does not know us because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are the children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be; but we know that when He is manifested, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him exactly as He is" (vs 1-2).
Keep this in mind, because when we get to the Day of Atonement and we start talking about oneness:
- When is that oneness achieved?
- When you receive the Holy Spirit?
- When you are resurrected from the dead?
That's pretty powerful!
When is it finally complete? New heavens and New Jerusalem! These prophecies stretch from beginning to the end. But as you go down step-by-step, you don't know that.
Verse 3: "And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, even as He is pure. Everyone who practices sin is also practicing lawlessness, for sin is lawlessness…. [the KJV says 'transgresses the Law'] …And you know that He appeared in order that He might take away our sins; and in Him is no sin" (vs 3-5).
But what about all those people who never knew about Jesus, because John 3:16[transcriber's correction] says anyone. Was that covered by the fact that He was the God of the Old Testament? That is a revelation that the New Testament brings out!
They didn't know it really. They understood it as Peter said, 'You're the Christ, the Son of the Living God.' But they never understood that He was the Lord God of the Old Testament. They had hints of it where Jesus told them, 'Before Abraham was, I AM' (John 8). They didn't believe it; they thought that that was blaspheme! How could that be?
Verse 6: "Everyone who dwells in Him does not practice sin… [the emphasis is on practicing sin] …anyone who practices sin has not seen Him, nor has known Him."
This tells us that there were those coming around claiming that they were ministers of God, but they were not. They didn't even know Him. "Everyone who dwells in Him does not practice sin…" It doesn't say that you won't sin, it just says that you don't practice sin! Why? Because God's Holy Spirit reveals to you that you're sinning! Even if you sin of a period of time, sooner or later the Holy Spirit is going to convict you that that's sin, and you repent; so, you can't practice sin like in the world!
Verse 7: "Little children, do not allow anyone to deceive you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. The one who practices sin is of the devil because the devil has beensinning from the beginning…." (vs 7-8).
- Is there always a penalty for sin?
- What is the wages of sin for human beings? Death!
That death means perish, which means not just dying but that you no longer exist! Everything that Satan has done…
- How does Satan deceive the world? In many ways!
- What do they center around mostly because he's called 'the god of this world'?
- What do Satan's sins center around mostly? The first four commandments!
That's all sin!
- Isn't that sin!
- Doesn't it say that he deceives the whole world?
- Doesn't it say that they worship the devil?
- Yes, indeed!
All of that is sin!
People growing up in these societies that know nothing about God, they're sinning from the day that they're born, even though they don't know that they're sinning. They may happen to discover the need for some of the commandments, the last six: honor your father and mother, no murder, no adultery, etc. Many societies have laws against that, even the ones who have all the paganism of Satan, because Satan has deceived them with blocking out the first four commandments.
Just think about it, we have on Churchathome.org all the videos that I did on Halloween—four of them! When we grew up, every one of us kept Halloween. Did we know that was sin? You didn't! Jonathan didn't keep Halloween, but I've know kids who have been in the Church who were so disappointed that they didn't keep Christmas that they went to some of their worldly friends and put up a little Christmas tree for themselves.
The world is about to enter into Halloween, and if you go to the grocery store you see them out there picking out the best pumpkin for their 'kiddy-poos.' And Trader Joe's has the best! They've got striped pumpkins—white and dark—and it looks really good.
I was up there in the car waiting for Delores to do her shopping inside—she gets one of these electric carts—and I was watching them come into the store. Here comes momma who takes care of the kids, provides for them, buys the groceries and they get the pumpkin. Then there was man whom I saw was giving a party, so he got all the small little pumpkins, I assume to set on the table where they were going to have their Halloween party.
- Do any of those people know that's sin?
- Do any of them know that they're following Satan the devil?
Some might read something about it, but say that that's old fashioned and 'we don't do it today.' They don't know, but is there a penalty for every sin. If you break the first four—whether you know you're breaking them or not—you're cutoff from God!
"…the devil has beensinning from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God appeared that He might destroy… [annul, to make it as though it never existed] …the works of the devil" (v 8).
That's interesting! All the works of the devil are on whose head? Satan and the demons!
Verse 9: "Everyone who has been begotten by God does not practice sin, because His seed of begettal is dwelling within him, and he is not able to practice sin because he has been begotten by God."
If they fall into a problem of practicing sin, then what will God do? He will give them a trial in hopes that they will repent!
The writings of John have a lot to say about Satan the devil. Where does Satan always like to get, or to arrive at? As close to the top as possible! He knows that if he can get the leader, everything else below collapses.
This helps answer the question: Why is there so much corruption in the governments of the world? Because Satan is in charge of the world! If anyone comes along and tries to change the status quo, he's either killed or viciously attacked.
Satan is going to be after the Church any way he can. That's true! All of those sins of Satan fall upon his head, and we'll see what we are to do so that it doesn't fall upon us.
Jesus was at the temple, the Temple of God. You would think that everybody associated with the temple would want to do everything explicitly exactly as God had said. But what did the Jews do? They had all their traditions that Jesus said, 'You reject the commandments of God so you can keep your own traditions!'
Here's all these Jews and these were erstwhile disciples. I say erstwhile because they said that they believed in Him, but they really didn't! It's a lot like people today in Christianity. They supposedly believe in Christ.
Sidebar: I have to give a sermon on this: Did you know that in the UK that they are redoing everything in the Church of England to fit the alphabet perverted people? It's amazing! It's quite an article! But they still think it's Christian.
John 8:31: "Therefore, Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in Him, 'If…'"—conditional! True Christianity in relationship to Christ is conditional!
"…you continue in My Word… [when it's singular, it means the whole Message] …you are truly My disciples. And you shall know the Truth… [the Word of God] …and the Truth shall set you free" (vs 31-32).
What is the Spirit of God called? The Spirit of the Truth! They work together!
Notice what they relied on, v 33: "They answered Him, 'We are Abraham's seed, and have never been in bondage to anyone. What do You mean by saying, "You shall become free"?':
They didn't understand that Jesus was talking about sin. But they were in captivity to the Romans, right there in their own country, and in addition Satan right at the Temple of God!
Verse 34: "Jesus answered them, 'Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a servant of sin. And the servant does not live in the house forever; but the Son lives forever. Therefore, if the Son shall set you free, you shall truly be free. I know that you are Abraham's seed…'" (vs 34-37).
The New Testament doesn't depend upon the physical linage, but those of Abraham's seed can be in the Church, but not solely, because it's going to the whole world!
Verse 37: "I know that you are Abraham's seed but you are seeking to kill Me, because My words do not enter into your minds. I speak the things that I have seen from My Father, and you do the things that you have seen from your father" (vs 37-38)—Satan the devil! They didn't even know it!
Verse 39: "They answered and said to Him, 'Our father is Abraham.' Jesus said to them, 'If you were Abraham's children… [notice the difference; they're the physical seed but not the spiritual children] …you would do the works of Abraham. But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has spoken the Truth to you, which I have heard from God; Abraham did not do this. You are doing the works of your father.' Then they said to Him, 'We have not been born of fornication…. [they knew all the things of Christ's birth] …We have one Father, and that is God'" (vs 39-41).
Verse 42: "Therefore, Jesus said to them, 'If God were your Father, you would love Me, because I proceeded forth and came from God. For I have not come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why don't you understand My speech? Because you cannot bear to hear My words" (vs 42-43).
They didn't know it! Remember that we read in 1-John 3 about 'the children of the devil.' Here they are right here!
Verse 44: "You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you desire to practice. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the Truth because there is no Truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he is speaking from his own self; for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I speak the Truth, you do not believe Me" (vs 44-45).
They were at God's temple; they were Jews who thought they were faithful. They expected the Messiah to come and make a political alliance with all the leaders of Judaism and overthrow the Romans and free them. But God's plan is greater than that! God's plan is for the whole world!
Verse 46: "Which one of you can convict Me of sin? But if I speak the Truth, why don't you believe Me? The one who is of God hears the words of God…. [that's the separating line] …For this reason you do not hear, because you are not of God" (vs 46-47).
Think of how absolutely crushing that this was to them, and they resisted and didn't even want to hear it.
Verse 48: "Then the Jews answered and said to Him, 'Are we not right in saying that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?' Jesus answered, 'I do not have a demon. But I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. Yet, I do not seek My own glory; there is One Who seeks and judges. Truly, truly I say to you, if anyone keeps My words, he shall not see death forever'" (vs 48-51). They came unglued with that! It didn't say that they wouldn't die, because in Adam we all die!
Verse 52[transcriber's correction]: "Then the Jews said to Him, 'Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham and the prophets died; yet, You say, "If anyone keeps My words, he shall not taste of death forever." Are You greater than our father Abraham who died? And the prophets, who died? Who do You make Yourself to be?'" (vs 52-53). This confrontation is really something!
Verse 54: "Jesus answered, 'If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father Who glorifies Me, of Whom you say that He is your God. Yet, you have not known Him…'" (vs 54-55).
Think of that! The priests, the Jews, at the temple of God did not know God! That's how Satan fully corrupted that whole system.
"…but I know Him. And if I say that I do not know Him, I shall be a liar, like you. But I know Him, and I keep His Word. Abraham your father was overjoyed to see My day; and he saw it, and rejoiced.' Then the Jews said to Him, 'You are not even fifty years old, and You have seen Abraham?' Jesus said to them, 'Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM'" (vs 55-58). Jesus let them know exactly who He was! That's something! Satan has many, many sins down through ever generation.
- How is God going to handle all of that?
- How is that going to be?
Let's take a look at the Church; in Rev. 2 & 3 Satan comes after the Church.
- Is there a martyrdom of the true saints coming?
- Who is going to inspire that? Satan the devil!
Church at Ephesus
Revelation 2:4: "Nevertheless, I have this against you, that you have left your first love." How did that happen? Tempt a little bit! Tempt a little bit! Add in a little of this, add in a little of that!
Verse 5: "Therefore, remember from where you have fallen, and repent, and do the first works; for if you do not, I will come to you quickly; and I will remove your lampstand out of its place unless you repent."
Church of Smyrna
Verse 9: "I know your works and tribulation and poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy of those who declare themselves to be Jews… [the true knowledge of salvation] …and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan."
Church at Pergamos
Verse 13: "I know your works and where you dwell, where the throne of Satan is; but you are holding fast My name, and did not deny My faith, even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. But I have a few things against you…" (vs 13-14).
If you're living in the middle of Satan's way… Let's put it this way: If you're living in the middle of Rome, it's going to effect what you do over a period of time, because Satan's emissary come as servants of righteousness. What happens here?
"…because you have there those who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit fornication" (v 14)—a changing of the Passover!
What do the Catholics call it to this day? Sacrifice the Mass called the Eucharist, which means thanks! Complete counterfeit!
Jesus also said, v 15: "Moreover, you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans… [hierarchical authority down] …which thing I hate. Repent! For if you do not repent, I will come to you quickly, and will make war against them with the sword of My mouth" (vs 15-16). That's the trial to get them to repent!
Church of Thyatira
It had the greatest problems, such as with Jezebel, which is a type of the Catholic Church, and with even knowing the depths of Satan. Satan wants to get in!
- Have we seen Satan in our day come in and begin to change everything? Yes, indeed, and change the doctrine!
- What has happened to the Church? Been scattered for its own good!
Church of Sardis(Rev. 3) They have only a few faithful things!
Church of Philadelphia
They have kept the Word of God. There is always a small group of people who always keep the Word of God in spite of the synagogue of Satan (as it says here).
Church of Laodicea
It doesn't mention Satan directly, but they have so many things, and they're so busy that they begin to forget God. What does God have to do? He has to correct them!
(go to the next track)
We'll do a few more Scriptures on how Satan works.
2-Corinthians 4:3: "But if our Gospel is hidden, it is hidden to those who are perishing; in whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest the Light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, Who is the image of God, should shine unto them" (vs 3-4).
God lets Satan blind them! They didn't run up and say, 'O Satan, we want to be blinded.' No! That's Satan sin, plus their sin is rejecting the Truth!
Let's see why Jesus spoke to them in parables; Matthew 13:14: "And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, 'In hearing you shall hear, and in no way understand; and in seeing you shall see, and in no way perceive; for the heart of this people has grown fat, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed…'" (vs 14-15). It's a combination: Satan does the blinding, and they willingly accept it.
"…lest they should see with their eyes, and should hear with their ears, and should understand with their hearts, and should be converted, and I should heal them" (v 15). That's something!
Jesus also says that understanding the Gospel has been given to those whom He has called. No one else. For those who are called, let's see how God calls them out of the world.
Think about children being born into the world, being brought up in the world, all of them blinded and doing the things of Satan the devil! But they don't know it's Satan the devil! There are some people who get into the deep things of Satan, and they know that it's Satan the devil. That's another whole category.
Ephesians 2:1: "Now, you were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you walked in times past according to the course of this world… [Who is the leader of this world? Satan the devil!] …according to the prince of the power of the air… [another name of Satan] …the spirit that is now working within the children of disobedience" (vs 1-2)—the children of the devil!
If you went up to people who were coming out of a big Catholic Cathedral and you're standing there and giving a testimony to tell them everything that went on in there is not of God, but of Satan the devil! You better run fast; very fast!
Verse 3: "Among whom also we all once had our conduct in the lusts of our flesh, doing the things willed by the flesh and by the mind, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as the rest of the world. But God, Who is rich in mercy because of His great love with which He loved us" (vs 3-4).
Then that gets into the calling of God and what God is doing. In Eph. 6 we find the same thing. We are fighting against Satan the devil!
Ephesians 6:10: "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the might of His strength. Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil" (vs 10-11).
That's what happens when people begin to forget that everything comes from God. That's why in the problem with Solomon—which I call the Solomon Syndrome—everything that God gave him, he attributed to himself:
I was the wisest. I had the most money. I did this, that and the other thing. Rather than God put me in my father's place, and God gave me the wisdom that I have. God gave me all the wealth that I have, and I don't have anything on my own.
That is one of the fiery darts from Satan!
Verse 12: "Because we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, but against principalities and against powers, against the world rulers of the darkness of this age, against the spiritual power of wickednessin high places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having worked out all things, to stand. Stand, therefore, having your loins girded about with Truth, and wearing the breastplate of righteousness" (vs 12-14).
Then we have in 1-Peter 5, resist the devil in the faith! You have to use the Word of God!
We talked a lot about the devil. His judgment is coming! In order for Christ to qualify, right after He was baptized what was the first thing that He had to go through? Being tempted by Satan for 40 days and 40 nights!
We also know that He had human nature like any other human being. He had to carry the law of sin and death in Him, yet, not sin! That is quite a judgment! In other words, in order for there to be the perfect sacrifice there had to be the one of God Who became Jesus Christ, the Lord God of the Old Testament, and He had to be just like any other human being. He got the law of sin and death from His mother.
- How do we know that He had that?
- Did He die? Yes!
- Was He tempted in every way? Yes!
Yet, He was without sin! So, the law of sin and death was never activated in Him, because He never sinned!
Romans 8:3: "For what was impossible for the Law to do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God having sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh."
How did Jesus do that? By never sinning so that He could be the sin sacrifice for all humanity! God is thinking past, present and future! He's not thinking like the Baptist who say that if you're not in a Baptist church you're going to burn in hell forever. How's that for the love of God? Not very good!
The Two Goats of Leviticus 16
I a five part series by David Grabbe, the brother of Lester Grabbe. This is the doctrine of the Church of the Great God, that both of the goats of Lev. 16 Christ fulfills.
Let's answer the first one; Grabbe keys it on that Christ bore our sins. In doing so:
- Did Christ carry them into the wilderness?
- How far did He carry our sins?
1-Peter 2:21: "For to this you were called because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow in His footsteps; Who committed no sin; neither was guile found in His mouth; Who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when suffering, He threatened not, but committed Himself to Him Who judges righteously; Who Himself bore our sins within His own body on the tree…" (vs 21-24)—the cross; He didn't take our sins any further!
Another variation of the Azazel goat is that Christ took our sins to heaven. Why would God want our sins in heaven? All the sins of all humankind were atoned for by Christ on the cross, and He died!
Satan is the 'god of this world.' He appears as righteous, but he is a liar! People in the world cannot tell the difference between the true God and Satan, because they're blinded. They sinned! The sacrifice of Christ covers all sin of all human beings who repent! Some have never had an opportunity to repent, so there's the second resurrection (Rev. 20). Those in the first resurrection will be kings and priests with Christ, but the rest of the dead live not again until the thousand years is over.
Did you know that Rev. 20 is one of the most important chapters in the whole Bible! It shows the binding of Satan at the beginning of the Millennium, and it shows that he's loosed for a short season. Then it shows that he is cast into the Lake of Fire. Then the final is that he is cast into the darkest blackness forever!
Why? That's his punishment, because there was never any repentance! All the sins collectively that he brought upon mankind he owns! God expects individuals to repent of their sins; that's covered by Christ.
Grabbe writes in this paper that both of the goats symbolize Christ. He makes absolutely no allowance for it being Satan. The word Azazel means the one who is removed! Was Christ removed? Also, in the book of Enoch and some of the Macabees, it's called Satan or one of the demons. Grabbe says that because they call it that they won't consider that. Okay, we won't consider it, but what is Azazel called on its own? The one who is removed!
Leviticus 16:1: "And the LORD spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD and they died. And the LORD said to Moses, 'Speak to Aaron your brother, that he does not come at all times into the sanctuary within the veil before the mercy seat, which is on the ark, so that he does not die, for I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat. Aaron shall come into the sanctuary this way: with a young bull, for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering'" (vs 1-3). The burnt offerings are offered after the sins have been taken care of!.
Verse 4: "He shall put on the Holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches on his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen miter he shall be dressed. These are Holy garments. And he shall wash his flesh in water and put them on. And he shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering. And Aaron shall offer his young bull of the sin offering which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself and for his house. And he shall take the two goats and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation" (vs 4-7). These two goats were to be as identical as possible!
Verse 8: "And Aaron shall cast lots on the two goats; one lot for the LORD and the other lot for Azazel."
If they were both for the Lord, then there wouldn't have to be any choice. Get two kids of the goats for the Lord. This is a special thing. The prophecy of this event cannot be understood until certain parts of the New Testament and Rev. 20 in particular are understood.
The Wave Sheaf Offering: Did they ever think that that would apply to the Messiah? No! No way! In the Old Testament you can't understand that, and you can't understand that until you examine the events of Christ's death and the three days and nights in the grave and His resurrection; then His ascension to heaven. There's no way that just strictly the firstfruits, the First of the firstfruits, and then the firstfruit harvest. Likewise with this.
Did they under what the first one removed was for? No, they didn't! They understood that He took their sins out in the wilderness. Why in the wilderness? Symbolic of where nobody lives! That's why it couldn't be going to heaven, because Who lives there? God the Father and Jesus Christ, and millions of angels!
We won't read Azazel, since Grabbe is offended with that word. Why is this a "lot"? It's for the people of Israel without the Spirit of God, because they are not called!
It's also for the people of God with the Spirit of God for whom the message is a little different. For us we're called and we know that all the sins that Satan has perpetrated on mankind, he must bear.
What are the commandments that Satan deceives people with? Beginning with the first four, even with just the first one? You get another god, but you don't know it! You grow up in society and your parents and everyone that you knew, they kept all these days.
Cast lots because carnal people cannot discern between the true God and a false god, and He's another Jesus. The lot is cast is because God chooses the one for Himself! He doesn't choose the one for Azazel, that is be default. If you choose the true one, then the other one is for something else.
Verse 9: "And Aaron shall bring…"—'the two goats' is what it should read IF it were for both, because every sacrifice of God for the forgiveness of human sin is a sacrifice of shed blood.
Verse 9: "And Aaron shall bring the goat on which the LORD'S lot fell, and offer it for a sin offering. But the goat on which the lot fell for Azazel… [the one taken away] …shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement upon it and sent away into the wilderness for Azazel" (vs 9-10).
When this was done in the Old Testament, they had no understanding that this was for Satan. That's why the King James calls it the scapegoat. In other words, someone else has a guilt that was brought upon me. I can repent, but the one who brought it upon me still has it.
Verse 11: "And Aaron shall bring the young bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself and for his house, and shall kill the young bull of the sin offering, which is for himself. And he shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of fragrant incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil. And he shall put the incense on the fire before the LORD. And the cloud of the incense shall cover the mercy seat that is on the testimony…. [the Ark] …And he shall not die. And he shall take of the blood of the young bull and shall sprinkle with his finger on the front of the mercy seat eastward. And he shall sprinkle at the front of the mercy seat seven times from the blood with his finger. Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people…" (vs 11-15).
If it's a sin offering for the people, that's to cover their sins. But before he could do that he had to have his sins covered by the blood of the bullock.
Verse 15: "Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people and bring its blood inside the veil. And he shall do with that blood as he did with the blood of the young bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and before the mercy seat. And he shall make an atonement for the sanctuary because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel and because of their transgressions in all their sins…." (vs 15-16).
If you have the blood used for an atonement for all of their sins, why are they put on the head of the one to go away? Because not all of their sins came from within themselves! Their own sins they can repent of, but Satan is the one who with his spiritual power, has deceived the world, deceived every nation! The only ones who are not deceived are those with the Spirit of God and stay close to God! All the rest of the world are the children of the devil, whether they know it or not!
The people were told nothing about Satan. Read it, they were told about other gods, but they weren't told about Satan like it is in the New Testament. The New Testament is very clear.
Verse 16: "And he shall make an atonement for the sanctuary because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel and because of their transgressions in all their sins…."
If this is an atonement for all of their sins, have their sins been forgiven? Have they been covered for, or atoned? Yes!
"…And so he shall do for the tabernacle of the congregation, which remains with them in the midst of their uncleanness. And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goes in to make an atonement in the sanctuary until he comes out and has made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel" (vs 16-17).
Like Hebrews says, everything in the Old Testament was for the purifying of the flesh, not a conversion of the mind.
They could not understand that this second goat—the one to be taken away—actually represented Satan. Just like when they kept the Passover, they had no idea of what the Passover would mean when Christ came. Likewise with Abraham, God made the covenant with him on the 14th and 15th (Gen. 15). Abraham had no idea how far down in time that that would go, or how far back in time when Christ returns that would reach. Every person is responsible for his own sins! But:
- Who has structured the world after his own way? Satan!
- Did the people of Israel know that? No! They didn't know that!
You can't base it upon what is in the Old Testament alone. You have to ask:
- Why was this goat left alive?
If it's to make an atonement,
- Why wasn't it slain?
- Why didn't God say to bring Him two goats for a sin offering and we'll slay both of them?
Because the people were not responsible for the sins of Satan that he perpetrated on them!
Here we are coming up to Halloween, and all the little kiddies going out on Halloween, and all the parents taking them. Many of the parents are smart and go to the rich neighborhoods and take home more candy and all this sort of stuff.Guess when the flu season starts? Right after Halloween!
They dress up as goblins, as witches, animals and different things, and they think they're doing something fun. They don't even know that they are acting out sin of Satan! He's responsible for that!
When they grow up, and if God calls them, then maybe they will understand that they were living in sin and in Satan's world, but not until then.
Verse 20: "And when he has made an end of reconciling the sanctuary and the tabernacle of the congregation and the altar, he shall bring the live goat."
Why do we know that this is a type of Satan? He is to bring the live goat to the door. Satan is able to have communication with God, but he can't go inside.
Verse 21: "And Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the sins of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away by the hand of a chosen man into the wilderness."
Where did Christ meet Satan for the temptation? In the wilderness! It wasn't in heaven, it was in the wilderness where no one lives. There is no other way you can show that this is a type of Satan, a spirit being, who is responsible for the sins of the world. He has his part! Even in court today, if you have someone who murders someone, and someone else is standing right alongside the murderer and telling that this is the guy, 'shoot him, kill him'; he's an accomplice! He has to pay for his sin, and the one who pulled the trigger has to pay for his sin.
That's exactly what we're dealing with here. The sacrifice of the goat with the blood on the sanctuary covers and forgives the sins of the people that they personally have done. Now the instigator of all of their sins.
When the children of Israel sinned in the wilderness, they were cutoff from God directly themselves.
Amos 5:21: "I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies." That's everything we know of the worldly holidays! They all go back to the same origin.
Verse 22: "Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them. Nor will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals"—because they weren't repenting of their sins!
They were thinking of these things. You can bring a sacrifice, but if you don't repent, what value is it? None!
Verse 23: "Take the noise of your songs away from Me… [may it be all blotted out during Christmas season] …for I will not hear the melody of your harps. But let judgment roll down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream. Have you offered sacrifices and offerings to Me forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?" (vs 23-25).
Think of this, right there where God was present with them in the pillar of cloud by day, and the fire by night. What did they still do?
Verse 26: "But now you have carried the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun, your images, the star of your gods which you made for yourselves"—in the wilderness! Who inspired that?
This is why the one responsible for all of these blindings and sin, and the organization of the society, is Satan the devil! The only way you can picture a spirit being in a physical setting is with a live goat. You couldn't picture it any other way. Who is removed bearing all of his sins?
What did you think the first time that you found out that Christmas was not of God? Look at all the years you kept it! I mean, you can repent of that, but Christmas is still in the mind, because Satan is still here!
Leviticus 16:21: "And Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the sins of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away by the hand of a chosen man into the wilderness."
Grabbe says that this doesn't picture putting sin in prison (Rev. 20). Why doesn't this picture that? If he's put away and all the demons with him, then he's let out for a little season and does the same thing again at the end. Then the Lake of Fire and into the blackest darkness forever! Satan must pay for all his sins, all of them, from the beginning of his rebellion until his being cast into the blackest darkness forever!
A lot of people think—and I tend to agree with them—that a black hole is where the blackest darkness is forever. Once you're in a black hole you can't get out.
Verse 22: "And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities to a land in which no one lives. And he shall let the goat go in the wilderness."
Then the one who took the goat out had to come back and clean his clothes and everything like that, so did the priest and the other ones with him.
The final judgment on Satan doesn't come until the end of the Millennium. We referred to these verses, so let's see:
Revelation 20:1: Then I saw an angel descending from heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand." This has to be a strong angel!
Would the children of Israel be able to see an angel take the goat out into the wilderness? No! So, use a man, use a goat!
Verse 2: "And he took hold of the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. Then he cast him into the abyss, and locked him up, and sealed the abyss over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer…" (vs 2-3).
During the Millennium Satan won't be here. Everyone is responsible for his own sins, and there is no devil to say the devil made me do it! None of that.
"…until the thousand years were fulfilled; and after that it is ordained that he be loosed for a short time" (v 3). What does Satan do?
Verse 7: "Now, when the thousand years have been completed, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison." Where it talks about Satan, that includes all the demons!
Verse 8: "And he shall go out to deceive the nations that are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog…"
If you want a full explanation of that, come to day seven of the Feast of Tabernacles.
"…of whom the number is as the sand of the sea, to gather them together for war" (v 8).
These are those who sinned and wouldn't repent and are exiled. So, they're in a place of exile; they haven't repented, and Satan is loosed on them and he says:
Look folks, I have been held for a thousand years. I am the 'true God.' Here's what we do: We're going to make weapons of war and we're going to take over the world.
Same thing he said of the angels. Why does God let him do that? Because these are all unrepentant! They have to die twice, so this is this their first death regardless of their age. Satan gathers them to Jerusalem and what happens? Fire comes down out of heaven from God and burns them all up! That's their first death.
Verse 10: "And the Devil, who deceived them, was cast into the Lake of Fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet had been cast…"
- When were they cast into the Lake of Fire? At the beginning of the Millennium!
- What happens when a human being meets that kind of fire? History! Poof! They're all ashes!
That's why it should read "…had been cast…"
"…and they… [that's in the Greek, so it has to be]: …Satan and the demons, shall be tormented day and night into the ages of eternity" (v 10).
It doesn't say that he will be in the Lake of Fire into the ages of eternity. But he will be tormented. The first torment is fire.
Jude tells the fate of the demons, and that's why the they must refer to the demons. It cannot refer to the beast and the false prophet because they died when they were cast in there. The only way it could refer to them would be the demons that possessed them.
During the Millennium there will be no satanic or demonic sin. It will all be human sin. If they don't repent, they will be removed. Maybe in the place of exile they can repent and come back. But if they don't repent then they will live there, die and be buried.
At the end of the Millennium there will be those who have not repented and they haven't come to the end of their life to die, so that's why Satan is loosed to bring those down to Jerusalem, and the are consumed, all of them, and that is their first death. Then Satan is removed forever!
Jude 11: "Woe to them! For they have walked in the way of Cain… [he was influenced by Satan (1-John 3)] …and for gain, they have wholly given themselves up to Balaam's delusion, and haveperished in the rebellion of Korah. These are subversive stains in your love feasts, feasting in person together with you; fearlessly they are feeding themselves. They are clouds without water, being driven by the winds; trees of late autumn, without any fruit, uprooted, twice dead" (vs 11-12). That's all the incorrigible wicked!
Now then, here is the judgment on Satan and the demons that caused them:
Verse 13: "Raging waves of the sea, casting up like foam their own ignominious shame; wandering stars… [Satan is called 'the morning star' (Isa. 14)] …for whom has been reserved the blackest darkness forever!" That's their final fate! Completely cutoff from God!
In a physical ceremony, such as Lev. 16 for the children of Israel, they didn't understand the prophetic meaning of what was being done. We can look at what we have here in prophecy that's going to happen—that they never understood—and we can see the full meaning of the two goats:
- for the forgiveness of sin
- for the removal of the author of sin who caused all the sin
It cannot mean that Christ bore our sins, because He never took them to the wilderness! He only took them to the cross. All sin, the atonement for sin and payment for sin, is at the base of the cross where the blood of Jesus Christ was shed. That's why when we come to the fall Holy Days, we have:
- Trumpets, which is the return of Christ and the saints to the earth
- Atonement, the removal of Satan
- the Millennium, the setting up of God's government on the earth
- how you handle those who sin
- the final end if they don't repent
Why does God use Satan to do that the last time? Because they're unrepentant, and because all unrepentant people must die twice! That's what the Lake of Fire is, the second death!
Those at the end of the Millennium who didn't repent, Satan deceived into coming against Jerusalem. God executed all of them with their first death! Then all the incorrigible wicked will be raised, and they will all get their judgment in the Lake of Fire at once. All of them!
We've covered a lot of ground today. But there is no way that the two goats of Lev. 16 can both refer to Christ!
- Christ takes care of human sin!
- God takes care of Satan's sin!
