Dear Brethren,
Many of us who have been in the Church of God for decades once believed that Christ would have already returned by now—that we would be in the Kingdom of God, ruling with Jesus. Every attempt by men to set exact dates concerning Jesus’ return has failed. Some are now putting forth the years 2027 and 2030. But like all past predictions, these dates will also fail. Jesus’ second coming will happen on God’s timetable. While the Bible indeed gives us the structure of major events to happen in prophecy—based on the Sabbath and holy days—we must not forget what Jesus Himself told us about His return: “But concerning that day, and the hour, no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only” (Matt. 24:36).
Forty days after His resurrection—after teaching the disciples much more about the Kingdom of God and just before He was about to ascend into heaven—Jesus’ disciples asked Him: “ ‘Lord, will You restore the kingdom to Israel at this time?’ And He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has placed in His own authority; but you yourselves shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses, both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and unto the ends of the earth’ ” (Acts 1:6-8). This confirms that the Father has sole authority in determining the exact time of Jesus’ return.
We Must Watch Events—Not Specific Dates: According to prophecy, specific end time events must take place before Christ’s return. This is why Jesus told us to watch events, not to set dates. There are five major events that must take place before Jesus’ second coming. I covered these events in my January 29 message: Five Major Events to Happen in Prophecy Before the End Comes. You may download that message from our website, truthofgod.org. There are many things occurring today that will lead up to the fulfillment of these five key events. Here are the five major prophetic events we should be anticipating:
First: The King of the North must be ruling in Europe. The fulfilling of this event is not yet on the horizon—but it is moving closer. Europe is in political and financial disarray. They are financially broke and have little military power. Concurrent with the rise of the King of the North will be a resurgent Catholic Church—which is actually beginning to grow in influence after decades of impotence. Most notable is the recent development of Chrislam—a religious fusion between Catholics and Muslims. Instead of opposing each other, Catholics and Muslims will be worshiping together at their soon-to-be-opened worship center in Dubai, UAE.
Second: The King of the South must be in power in the Islamic countries of the Middle East. The pandemic turmoil that continues to take place in all these countries is undoubtedly laying the foundation for the King of the South to arise to a position of power—and ultimately become a threat to the King of the North. Given the condition of the Islamic nations today, this will take a number of years to develop in order to fulfill certain prophecies in the book of Daniel: “And at the time of the end, the king of the south shall push at him. And the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries and shall overflow and sweep through. He shall also enter into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown. But these shall escape out of his hand: Edom and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. And he shall stretch out his hand also upon the countries. And the land of Egypt shall not escape. But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt. And the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps” (Dan. 11:40-43).
Third: Before these two events can take place, the Jews must build the third Temple in Jerusalem, as shown in the book of Revelation: “Then the angel gave me a measuring rod like a staff, saying, ‘Arise and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and those who worship in it. But leave out the court that is within the temple area, and do not measure it because it has been given up to the Gentiles; and they shall trample upon the holy city for forty-two months’ ” (Rev. 11:1-2).
In that new temple will be the “holy place” in which the Beast will enter and proclaim himself to be God. “Now we beseech you, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, that you not be quickly shaken in mind, nor be troubled—neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by epistle, as if from us, saying that the day of Christ is present. Do not let anyone deceive you by any means because that day will not come unless the apostasy [the world rebellion against the true God] shall come first, and the man of sin shall be revealed—the son of perdition, the one who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is an object of worship; so that he comes into the temple of God and sits down as God, proclaiming that he himself is God….
“For the mystery of lawlessness is already working; only there is one Who is restraining at the present time until it arises out of the midst. And then the lawless one will be revealed (whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth, and will destroy with the brightness of His coming); even the one whose coming is according to the inner working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those who are perishing because they did not receive the love of the truth, so that they might be saved. And for this cause, God will send upon them a powerful deception that will cause them to believe the lie” (II Thess. 2:1-4, 7-11).
Fourth: The “Two Witnesses” must come on the scene. “And I will give power to My two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two lampstands that stand before the God of the earth” (Rev. 11:3-4). The Two Witnesses will not come from any of the churches of God. One will be the governor of Judea and the other will be the High Priest of the coming Temple, as found in Zechariah 3 and 4.
Fifth: A final Elijah must come. About the same time the Two Witnesses appear, a third and final Elijah is prophesied to appear. We find the biblical record of the first Elijah the prophet in I Kings 17-22 and II Kings 1-10. The second Elijah was John the Baptist. When the angel Gabriel announced to Zacharias that his wife Elizabeth would bear him a son, he prophesied this about John the Baptist: “For he shall be great before the Lord. And he shall never drink wine or strong drink in any form, but he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb. And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” (Luke 1:15-17).
There are two prophecies concerning John the Baptist in the Old Testament. The first one is found in Isaiah: “A voice is calling out in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God’ ” (Isa. 40:3). The second one is recorded in Malachi: “ ‘Behold, I will send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, Whom you seek, shall suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in Whom you delight. Behold, He comes,’ says the Lord of hosts” (Mal. 3:1).
After John the Baptist was circumcised and named John, his father Zacharias prophesied this about his son: “And you, little child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest; for you shall go before the face of the Lord, to prepare His ways; to give the knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins, through the deep inner compassions of our God; in which the dayspring from on high has visited us, to shine upon those who are sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:76-79).
Although John the Baptist was described by Gabriel as one “coming in the spirit and power of Elijah,” John did not describe himself in that way. When the Jews asked John who he was, he did not declare himself to be Elijah: “And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, ‘Who are you?’ Then he freely admitted, and did not deny, but declared, ‘I am not the Christ.’ And they asked him, ‘Then who are you? Are you Elijah?’ And he said, ‘I am not.’ Then they asked, ‘Are you the Prophet?’ [Deut. 18:15] And he answered, ‘No.’ Therefore, they said to him, ‘Who are you? What do you say about yourself so that we may give an answer to those who sent us?’ He said, ‘I am a voice crying in the wilderness, “Make straight the way of the Lord,” as Isaiah the prophet said.’ Now those who had been sent belonged to the sect of the Pharisees…” (John 1:19-24).
Interestingly, John did not identify himself with the prophecy of Malachi 3:1. Rather, he designated himself as “a voice crying in the wilderness”—per Isaiah. Why was this? It could only be that there is a third Elijah—to appear just before Jesus’ return.
This third Elijah was prophesied of by Jesus Himself. After Peter, James, and John had seen the vision of Jesus’ transfiguration, which included Moses and the first Elijah, Jesus announced to these three disciples that John the Baptist was an Elijah and that there was yet another Elijah to come. However, they apparently did not understand, because Jesus was speaking of an Elijah who “shall come” before His second coming—about which they knew nothing: “Now as they were descending from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, ‘Tell the vision to no one until the Son of man has risen from the dead.’ Then His disciples asked Him, saying, ‘Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?’ And Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Elijah shall indeed come first and restore all things [a future third Elijah]. But I tell you that Elijah has already come [John the Baptist—the second Elijah], and they did not recognize him; but they did to him whatever they desired’ ” (Matt. 17:9-12).
It is important to realize that when Jesus told these things to the three disciples, John the Baptist—the second Elijah—had already been dead for some time. Before the vision of the transfiguration, it is recorded in Mark 6:17-28 that Herod the Tetrarch had beheaded John the Baptist. This means that Jesus was indeed declaring that a third Elijah was yet to come. Thus, Jesus was confirming the prophecy of a third Elijah as found in Malachi 4—who is yet to appear leading up to Jesus’ second coming. “ ‘For behold, the day is coming, burning like a consuming oven; and all the proud, and every doer of wickedness, shall be stubble. And the day that comes shall burn them up,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘and will leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise [This is the sign of the Son of Man that appears like a sun at the beginning of Jesus’ second coming—Matt. 24:27-30.], and healing will be in His wings. And you shall go out and grow up like calves of the stall. And you shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I am preparing,’ says the Lord of hosts.
“ ‘Remember the law of Moses My servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord [Jesus’ second coming, not His first]. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the sons, and the heart of the sons to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with utter destruction’ ” (Mal. 4:1-6). This has to be a third Elijah, who is yet to come—as declared by Jesus, that “Elijah shall come.”
Decades ago a leading minister in a church of God was declared to be the third Elijah. But he has been dead for 36 years and is thus too far removed from the return of Christ to have had any connection to Malachi’s prophecy. And most assuredly, the third Elijah will not come from a church of God. Rather, it is more likely that he will be a descendant of the house of Aaron—of the priestly line, as was John the Baptist—and will minister to repenting Jews in Palestine. He will undoubtedly be inspired by the powerful work of the Two Witnesses (see Zech. 12:7-14).
While we cannot know the exact date, as Jesus said, we need to be watching for these prophesied events to unfold. This is why Jesus admonished us: “Take heed, be watching and praying. For you do not know when the time is coming. It is like a man journeying to a far country, leaving his house and giving authority to his servants, and to each one his work, and commanding the doorkeeper to watch. Be watching, therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming: at evening, or at midnight, or at the cock’s crowing, or in the morning; lest he come suddenly and find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:33-37).
Jesus also told us to watch so that we are not preoccupied with the cares and troubles of this life: “Then He spoke a parable to them: ‘Observe the fig tree, and all the trees. When they have already begun to bud, and you look at them, you yourselves know that summer is near. In the same way also, when you see these things coming to pass, know that the kingdom of God is near.
“ ‘Truly I say to you, there is no way that this generation shall pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall never pass away. Watch yourselves, lest your hearts be preoccupied with high living and drinking and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly. For as a snare it shall come upon all those who dwell on the face of the earth. Watch therefore, and pray at all times that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man’ ” (Luke 21:29-36).
Being Perfected in the Love of God: We know that God the Father and Jesus Christ love us. But we cannot take that love for granted and focus on the physical things of this life and neglect our love for God. In fact, the best way to be watching our spiritual life and relationship with God and Jesus is to grow in the love of God. This is the greatest thing we can do and is reflected in the greatest commandment of all. Jesus said: “The first of all the commandments is, ‘Hear, O Israel. Our one God is the Lord, the Lord. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment” (Mark 12:29-30).
Remember, growing in the love of God is a process based on our daily relationship, or fellowship, with God the Father and Jesus Christ through prayer and study. The apostle John wrote his first epistle when there was great turmoil in the churches and in the world—much like it is today. Therefore, we can learn a great deal from John about how we need to live our lives in these times of trouble. We need to devote ourselves to prayer and study, and focus on the love of God—God’s love for us and our love for God. “[I]f anyone is keeping His Word, truly in this one the love of God is being perfected…” (I John 2:5).
John writes on how we live in the love of God and have His love perfected in us. “In this way the love of God was manifested toward us: that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. In this act is the love—not that we loved God; rather, that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also are duty-bound to love one another. No one has seen God at any time. Yet, if we love one another, God dwells in us, and His own love is perfected in us.
“By this standard we know that we are dwelling in Him, and He is dwelling in us: because of His own Spirit, which He has given to us…. And we have known and have believed the love that God has toward us. God is love, and the one who dwells in love is dwelling in God, and God in him. By this spiritual indwelling, the love of God is perfected within us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment because even as He is, so also are we in this world. There is no fear in the love of God; rather, perfect love casts out fear because fear has torment…” (I John 4:9-13, 16-18).
The apostle Paul brings out that the love of God is combined with the faith and the grace of God. These are the spiritual gifts that empower us to develop godly character through the love of God. He writes: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Whom we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we ourselves boast in the hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also boast in tribulations, realizing that tribulation brings forth endurance, and endurance brings forth character, and character brings forth hope. And the hope of God never makes us ashamed because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, which has been given to us” (Rom. 5:1-5).
Brethren, once again we thank God for the blessing of serving you so that you can continue to love God and to grow in grace and knowledge every day. Thank you for reaching out to other brethren and to new people—directing them to Church at Home. Once again, thank you for your prayers for us and all the brethren. We pray for you daily—for your healing, for your protection and comfort, for you to grow in the love and grace of God and in love for one another, and for God to be with you and bless you in every way. Especially in these difficult economic times, we truly thank you for your tithes and offerings—so that together we can continue to provide the Gospel to everyone who asks without cost. God’s method is perfect. We all give to others, who in turn can reciprocate with their tithes and offerings. This is God’s way. Remember, every day we are to stand in grace, walk in faith, believe in hope, and live in love.

Dear Mr. Coulter: I live in Honolulu, Hawaii, and I’ve been watching your videos on Church at Home and your Sabbath services at Truth of God for about 6 or 9 months now. I have learned so much and have had so many questions answered. I’ve been a fake Christian since I was a kid, and have been on and off with that most of my life—and I’m 57 now. I could never put my finger on it, but something made me wonder why Protestant teachings never seemed to match up with what God says. I never knew about the seventh-day Saturday Sabbath and how important that is. And now I’m learning about God’s holy days. I tried to keep the last few, but I didn’t really know what I was doing—but I kept them as holy days and stayed home so I could honor God. The Protestants teach, “Say a prayer and you’re saved.” That just never made sense to me; and from there they get into the debate of “once you’re saved you’re always saved”—or not.
Since I found your websites I have learned so much and I am finally beginning to understand what God says in his Word. I am currently working on repentance and I must say that it is very difficult. I understand that I don’t have the Holy Spirit and have not been baptized, so I have to do this on my own. I know God will help me, but mostly I have to repent on my own. So that’s what I’m working on now and I still have a ways to go. But my plan is to fully repent and to be baptized by full water submersion and receive the Holy Spirit of God. I will probably have to fly out to California to your congregation to be baptized. I don’t know any church here in Hawaii that I could trust to baptize me and if I have to fly out to see you guys to get be baptized when God says I’m ready, I will do that.
I still have a ways to go but God is doing amazing and wonderful things in my life. Sometimes I feel a million miles away from Him and wonder what am I doing. But at other times I feel Him so close that I can’t stop crying. I have no one in Hawaii to go to. I have shared your websites with countless people; no one’s gotten back to me. I’ve shared them with friends; I’ve shared them with Christians that I’ve known in the past who go to Sunday-keeping churches. No one’s gotten back to me, so I’m having to do this on my own—just me and God. Maybe that’s okay, maybe that’s what He wants.

Hello Fred: Just finished watching the July 17 live Sabbath sermon. It was the most succinct and relevant sermon I’ve seen in a long time, maybe ever. From Genesis to Revelation; Noah’s day to ours; genetic contamination by mixing man and animal; to the coming consequences for abortion and sun worshipping religion with it’s lying ministers—first by the infiltration and occupation of the nation’s various institutions to contaminate, inculcate, and subjugate our people through their minds; flood our land with drugs; capture and program our children; take away any means the people may have to defend themselves (guns, etc.); then, by land invasion, take us captive and use forced slave labor to grow food on our land for our enemy’s billions of people—while they complete the infrastructure in China, India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and elsewhere to facilitate the eventual movement of 200 million soldiers that will stretch from China to the middle east for the dark and terrible Day of the Lord in the valley of Megiddo—to Christ's return. You brought it all together. A very inspired message, if I may say so.
And that was just the second part of today’s sermon that came off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s more to mention, including the first part of your presentation that was just as impressive. I can hardly wait to watch it again—and again.—JD, Canada

Dear CBCG: Just wanted to say thank you for all the material I have received, and for the live sermons on the Sabbath. I live alone and live in an area that doesn’t have a CBCG congregation; so I watch live streaming services and I enjoy them quite a lot. I like your sense of humor and the facts (not fluff) that are preached. I hear a lot of fluff on TV and especially on Facebook. I have made some enemies on Facebook and elsewhere because of my belief in God’s truth, in obeying God’s laws, statutes, and precepts. Even some of my family members are darkened by the deceptions of Satan the devil; it is really pathetic, to say the least. I have been in several church of God organizations (UCG, LCG, and others) and have found that the CBCG seems to teach more of the truth than the others. I know by past and recent experience that maintaining friendships online is just as hard as it is in person when it comes to differences of opinion in “faith” and loving God and Jesus Christ. Just as recently as today, I had someone get angry with me on Facebook and told me she “did not want my opinion.” But, she voiced her opinion.
I thank you, Mr. Coulter, and Steven Greene, Steve Durham, Tom Fannin, and others for their contributions and for their inspiring sermons. Dear Fred: Thanks so much for today’s sermon! I just got done listening to it live. I am so grateful to God that we have someone who handles the Word of God truthfully! Your sermon today reminded me of a very sobering sermon I heard at the FOT in Jekyll Island in the United Church of God. The speaker was reading excerpts from the book Tortured for Christ by Richard Wurmbrand. To make a long story short, I found out that some lady got upset and left and never came back after hearing that sermon. The minister was told something along the lines of “Never do that again.” I heard this from my minister who at the time was in charge of the FOT. Sad! Like you always say, it is about numbers and not conversion!
I greatly appreciate hearing the truth, even if it is not pleasant or what we want to hear! I am extremely grateful that God has led me here where I can hear the absolute truth and not some sugarcoated pablum. When we are weak, we are “strong”! We of ourselves are weak, but we can be strong with His help! I prayed this morning to be fed by God and He led me to: “Why so Much Evil in the World?” It was written by you on October 25, 2014, and I found it to be very helpful living in today’s world. I came across it by researching something else, but perhaps it would be helpful if you re-posted it so others can read it.
I wanted to let you know that you crack me up laughing at least 3 or 4 times a week. It was like 4 times in today’s sermon. I don’t think you realize how funny you are! At least to me you are. You always cheer me up in your sermons. I am very grateful for all that God is teaching me through your websites. It is like a Treasure Chest. I never run out of things to study and learn. Dear Fred & CBCG Family: I really enjoyed your lesson “America’s Problems and Christ Coming in the Flesh Today.” I really don’t believe in Docetism, as it totally destroys the truth of the bodily resurrection of Jesus—and I believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus and His bodily return. Also, I believe in the two powers of the Godhead. I don’t believe in a trinity. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Feast this year. All the holy days are a delight! Dear Fred: The Fall feasts have rejuvenated my spiritual awareness to a higher level. It has increased my dedication to clean up my life. You made it abundantly clear how God desires to have a relationship with us. I have never heard this put together the way you did. I totally agree that we need to pray and study more and to repent daily. However, Psalms 1—regarding meditating on God’s laws day and night—helps to understand deeper. We are going to need all the strength we can acquire.
Today, at the Senior Center, I got into three conversations with three different men. One wants me to bring the satanic holidays list. I will also include a copy of the Faithful Version. I’m also going to give him my old version of God’s Plan For Mankind. I printed one for my three-ring binder. I will show him the revised one. The other person said that he wished I could talk to one of his brothers about the truth. He was a willing listener and praised me for the biblical knowledge that I gave to him. I replied that it was meant for him to hear because he was understanding what I was saying. He will receive a Faithful Version also. The other person asked why I stopped going to Bible study. My answer was regarding the seventh-day Sabbath. His response was, “Oh, you can make the Sabbath any day you want.” I just remained silent, then I walked away. “In hearing they can’t hear.”
They also teach that “every day is the Sabbath.” It’s a waste of two hours sitting there when they can’t hear and they can’t see. Some people are beginning to listen. Your way of teaching is very effective. I want to use my laptop so he can see the depth of Truth of God and Church at Home. Staying busy with the work of God keeps me out of trouble and sin.

Hello Fred: I am just going through your “Love Series” on Truth of God and I am on #5. They have been wonderful! God has blessed you greatly with His biblical teachings, which sadly many cannot see, or think are too harsh. But we are sinful beings and need a little spiritual kick in the behind once in a while!... My concern here is that you speak about fear. Yes, we should fear God if we continue in sin. But does fear not also mean respect for God’s majesty and holiness—for who He is as our loving creator and Father? We learn to respect Him through love, which will give us a desire to please Him and do His will and keep His commandments.
Through His grace we will with endurance become the holy children He created us to be. As you say, it is a great blessing to know God and to feel His love and to believe that someday, when God’s plan comes to its full fruition, we will have eternal life.
Thank you for your wonderful works God has blessed you with—teaching His truth “solo scriptura”! May God continue to bless you, as I know He has blessed me in bringing me to His Word through the Holy Spirit. What a wonderful time we will all have together in eternity with God our Father and Jesus Christ! Sincerely.—RL

Dear Fred: I watch your services every Sabbath and then download the PDF and mark it up using a program called Xodo; then I print it out and save it to a micro disk. I’ve listened to nearly every CD and watched the DVD discs you’ve sent me over the last 7 years or so. I have also read most of your books (I’ve worn part of the plastic laminate off The Christian Passover. Every page has some highlighting or notes. I’m reading J. H. Allen’s Sceptre/Birthright book and Neal’s Judaism book. I also have the Faithful Version on Xodo for marking up (the only book I haven’t marked up) but I have worn out a couple of other Bibles.
You are a great blessing to many, including myself—and yes, I watched you call out Cahn. Also, Mr. Greene’s “Monarch Butterfly” episodes were very good. I’m looking forward to the Revelation Flow series. Thank you and God bless.—JD, British Columbia, Canada

Hi Fred: It just turns the stomach to see our nation go to such abominable practices. You’ve said that once evil gets on you there is only one way to remove it: Godly repentance. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t really know what was going on in our government and why. But because of your newsletters I am able to understand why things are going they way they are under this corrupt government and stay up-to-date on current events. Every time I read this newsletter I want to send it to everyone; but I don’t. It makes me feel like people need to know this! They need to hear the whole truth!
