Later, the Israelites saw that the nations around them had kings to rule over them. The elders of Israel said to the prophet Samuel, “Give us a king like the other nations.” God warned them saying, “You shall get a king, but a king that will take your children and make them work. And he will take your land, tents and houses, and you'll cry out to God for help and God will not hear you.” The people still wanted a king.
The first king the Israelites had was Saul. He was a good king at first, but later he became a bad king because he didn't obey God.
