14 Things to Happen in Prophecy #2

I just asked Carl Franklin to do some research, and he's going to get back to me with it: This year we have a supposedly a tremendous El Nino and we're supposed to get a lot of rain. So far it looks like that.

Sidebar: I've said to myself that if we get a lot of rain here in California—we won't talk about the Midwest because they're getting flooded away at the present time. God corrects the nations and people and gives them something to think about with all of these disasters that come along. But after four years of drought in California, I thought that if we get a lot of rain this year, maybe God has given us more time to preach the Gospel.

What's going to happen with all these events going on—and we'll cover some of them today—different ones are going to say, 'The Tribulation is ready to come. Next year's going to be the Tribulation.' We were supposed to have it in 1975, 1988, 1989, 1997, 1998, 2008, 2012, 2014. And here we are 2016? Still a lot of time left!

How do we understand these things? I've given this sermon at different times, 14 Things To Happen in Prophecy—that needs to take place—so we're going to look at something that is important.

Here's the next project that I gave to Carl. Carl is tremendous in research and history. If you don't have the book, The Appointed Times of Jesus the Messiah, the first part of what he had we used that as the introduction leading to when Jesus began His ministry. That's based upon the kings of Persia and Cyrus and Darius coming into Babylon.

With what is taking place now, I got to thinking. There's a lot of time between some of these prophecies in Daniel, and we'll look at some of those and look at the timeframe. Like everything else, when we first read about the King of South pushing at the King of the North, we thought that the King of the North is going to immediately retaliate.

One of the requirements was that he would go into Egypt and into the Holy Land. But there are already some people saying that Putin is the King of the North. He's from Russia and that's up north, but that doesn't make him the King of the North as we have in the Bible.

So, here's what I wrote him for the second project.

Dear Carl, Yesterday I couldn't remember the second thing that I wanted you to double check. What is the overall timeframe of Dan. 10 and 11? We know it stretches clear to the end-time. However in chapters 10 and 11 it talks about a King of the North and the King of the South, etc., all the way through.

The thought occurred to me, which is this: How many kings were there actually? The kings of the north and the kings of the south in their various wars? and reigns? How many of their predecessors or successor kings, though accounted for in history, are not found in Dan. 10 and 11?

Why? They are not found because those go by events! So, the king that was reigning when the event was prophesied, and he did what was prophesied was either a king of the south or a king of the north. You read Dan. 10 and you see this going back and forth all the time.

So this is why we need to also look at something that's very important. God says it is God's glory to hide something, but the honor for the king to search it out.

It also says in Psalm 25:14: "The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him…" It also says in the last of Dan. 12 that at the end-time 'none of the wicked will understand, but the wise shall understand.'

How does God do this? This is why we study and re-study. We don't get discouraged. We look at the Word of God, knowing that it is true. We have to look at it to make sure and study that it is right.

Let me give you an example: Jesus asked the disciples, 'Who do men say that I, the Son of man, am? They said, 'Some say You're Jeremiah the prophet or one of the prophets. Some say You're John the Baptist resurrected from the dead.' But Jesus said, 'Who do you say that I am?' He asked Peter and Peter said, 'The Son of the living God' (Matt. 16). What did Jesus tell him? Jesus said, 'Blessed are you, Simon bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in heaven revealed it to you.'

The reason prophecy is hard to understand is because we look at things without coordinating that in history, going back so we can apply it to going forward.

That's why I gave you this little chart that we passed out here. It's Appendix Y from The Holy Bible in Its Original Order: Chart—Reign of Gentile Kingdoms.

We're all familiar with the book of Daniel. You know the whole story about Nebuchadnezzar. He had this dream; he had this vision. He didn't know what it meant. He called in all of his soothsayers and the astrologers and they're all political.

Nebuchadnezzar said to himself, 'I don't trust any of you lying no-goods.' He said, 'I had a dream and I want you to tell me what the dream is, what it was, and the interpretation of it.' They said, 'We can't do that.' He said, 'If you don't do it, you're dead.' They came back and the captain of the guard said to Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, 'The king had a vision, had a dream. The wise men said that they couldn't tell him what the dream was nor the interpretation of it, unless he told them what the dream was. He said he wasn't going to do it and if they couldn't tell him what it was, they're all dead men.'

So, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego all went and prayed and fasted. Daniel told the guard, 'We'll ask God to help us.' Daniel went into the king and said, 'Give me a little time and we'll ask God to let us know.

Daniel 2:19: "Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. And Daniel blessed the God of heaven. Daniel answered and said, 'Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His'" (vs 19-20).

This is a startling thing. As we're going to see as we survey the book of Daniel, this is the whole framework of God's plan from the time of Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar until the return of Christ and the setting up of the Kingdom of God. We're going to see many of the events are event-oriented without giving us a specific timeframe. We will see there are a couple of things that give us a specific timeframe, but all of the rest are event-driven.

Verse 21: "'And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings… [notice the plural] …He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding He reveals the deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him. I thank You, and praise You, O God of my fathers, Who has given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we desired of You, for You have made known to us the king's matter" (vs 21-23).

It's the only way we're going to understand. Even if we have an opinion, and that's why I have the cowbell (rung for speculation and opinion). Opinion is not doctrine and is not correct interpretation of the Scriptures.

Verse 25: "Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel in before the king… [v 26]: …The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, 'Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen and its interpretation?' Daniel answered before the king and said, 'The secret which the king has demanded cannot be shown to the king by the wise men, the enchanters, the astrologers or the magicians. But there is a God in heaven Who reveals secrets and makes known to King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days…'" (vs 25-28). But it was still a mystery, still a secret from Nebuchadnezzar to the last days. That's how the whole book of Daniel goes, from whatever event to the end.

"…Your dream and the visions of your head upon your bed are these: As for you, O king, while upon your bed your thoughts came to you of what should come to pass hereafter. And He Who reveals secrets makes known to you what shall come to pass. But as for me…'" (vs 28-30).

This is what it has to be for all who are teachers or elders or ministers of God. We don't have anything that God doesn't give us. We need to be very careful in how we search things out, especially due to prophecy.

Why? Because the final end result is, as Jesus said, 'Only My Father in heaven knows the day and the hour.' He even said in one place, 'Not even the Son.' Why didn't Jesus know? Being flesh on the earth, He didn't know! I'm sure later He knew.

Verse 30: "But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living man, but so that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart. You, O king, looked—and behold, a great image! That great image, whose brightness was surpassing, stood before you. And its form was awesome" (vs 30-31).

Think about this: Have you ever had anyone tell you what your dream was? Try this sometime. Get up in the morning, ask your husband or wife, or go to work and tell your friend, 'I had a dream last night.' You did, what was it? 'I'm not going to tell you, you tell me.'

So, this was a real miracle. Can you imagine what Nebuchadnezzar was thinking when Daniel was telling him this? Here's the king and here's this young Jewish man, a captive from Jerusalem, from his first invasion of Jerusalem. Remember, there were three invasions over twenty years. And here Daniel is telling the king what he saw.

Verse 32: "This image's head was of fine gold; his breast and his arms were of silver; his belly and his thighs were of bronze; His legs were of iron; his feet were part of iron and part of clay. You watched until a stone was cut out without hands that struck the image upon its feet, which were of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were broken in pieces together. And they became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors. And the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. This is the dream. And we will tell the interpretation before the king" (vs 32-36). I imagine he was absolutely dumb-founded.

When someone tells you something that's a real surprise, you sit there with your mouth open and your jaw hanging down. I imagine the king was there. He was a supreme ruler of the whole empire. Everyone 'cow-towed' to him; everyone bowed down before him, and here's this slave, captive from Judea revealing this to him.

Notice the deference that he gave to him, v 37: "You, O king, are a king of kings, for the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory."

Dan. 4 is very interesting, because that's Nebuchadnezzar's epistle to all rulers of the earth. Isn't that interesting? He wrote chapter four and it was put in the Bible.

Verse 38: "And wherever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field, and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand…" What does the Bible tell us? We have nothing we didn't receive! even Nebuchadnezzar!

"…and has made you ruler over them all. You are this head of gold" (v 38). I guess that's why he got so vain, God had to cut him down (Dan. 4).

Verse 39: "And after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to you, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, forasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and beats down all things, and as the iron that crushes all these, shall it break in pieces and crush. And whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters' clay and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided. But there shall be in it the strength of the iron, because you saw the iron mixed with miry clay. And as the toes of the feet were part of iron and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly broken. And whereas you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mix themselves with the seed of men. But they shall not cling to one another, even as iron does not combine with clay. And in the days of these kings, the God of heaven shall set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed. And the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever" (vs 39-44).

I'm reading through it all for a particular reason.

Verse 45: "Because you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter. And the dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure."

Is there any timeframe given here? No! What do we have? We have event-frame, not timeframe. That's important!

Take your chart, Appendix Y, that you have here, and come to the right-hand column and let's look at the number of years involved. He had no knowledge that it would be 2,500 years later. Right-hand column:

• The Events Fulfilled in History
• The Chaldean Empire—Babylon—625-538B.C.

Those are verifiable dates. Isn't it interesting that God did it at a time when we would be able to go back in history and have verifiable dates? He didn't do this before the Flood when everything was destroyed!

• The Persian Empire—558-330B.C.—228 years

How many kings or emperors were there in the Persian Empire through the whole history of the Persian Empire? We're not told!

• Greece, under Alexander the Great, and Four Divisions—333B.C.-31B.C.—200 years.
• The Battle of Actium—31B.C.—when the prominence of the Roman Empire started

I want you to notice how this progresses. It starts out and then it expands and expands. None of these dates are found in the Bible, but the events are found in the Bible. We have to properly put together the verifiable history with it, and we can get a timeframe. Daniel

• 2—the Roman Empire—31B.C.-476A.D.—2 divisions: West and East.

What you will do is this: Look to the left of the chart and you see: There are no details beginning with the two legs. It goes all the way down to the ten toes. We would have no way of understanding how that timeframe would work out unless we had some other historical facts to verify it. That's why we have the chart the way that it is.

What I want you to think about is that it doesn't tell us how many kings that there were in those timeframes until the other empire came along, with the exception of the Persian Empire: we have Ahasuerus, during the days of Esther. But in history there were three Ahasueruses. The Bible doesn't tell us any of this, so what we need to do is always start with the Scriptures and understand that the Scriptures are true and we are to search out the details in history to see if they fit. If they fit then we know that is what it's talking about.

In Dan. 5 we have the end of the kingdom. The end of Babylon was a very unusual thing. They were having a great celebration when Cyrus and his troops entered into Babylon. They thought they were perfectly safe.

Babylon was built on both sides of the Euphrates River. What they did to keep the enemy out, on the north side when the water came in to go through Babylon, they had iron gates going all the way down. You couldn't get through. Then they had stairs coming down to the riverside. I don't know how they had this all built up, but it must have been pretty spectacular. They had huge brass gates that they closed every night. So, they felt really secure that no one was ever going to get in.

Here they're having this big party and what happens is that what they wanted to do was celebrate how great they were. The last king—Belshazzar—saw a hand on the wall. He called in Daniel to find out what it was. At this time Daniel was quite old. So, Daniel came in and he told him.

I'll let you read all the rest in between, Daniel 5:23: "But you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven.… [Does God always take down those who are vain? Yes, He does!] …And they have brought the vessels of His house before you; and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines have drunk wine from them.…" From those that were supposed to be used to offer wine to God at the temple that they took as booty and loot when they destroyed the temple.

"…And you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know. And you have not glorified the God in Whose hand is your breath and all your ways. Then the palm of the hand was sent from Him. And this writing was written" (vs 23-24).

The way that I understand the history is that while Daniel was telling him about the fall of his kingdom, the Medes and Persians were coming in. What Cyrus did, he built a diversion for the Euphrates River so the water level would go down. The troops were able to come in under the iron bars, and they forgot to secure the brass doors. So, the Medes and the Persians walked in without throwing a spear. We can't say firing a shot. They took it over right when they were having this great celebration.

Verse 25: "And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the thing. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom and brought it to an end…. [that night] …TEKEL: You are weighed in the balances and found wanting. PERES: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.' Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with purple and a golden chain around his neck… ['Let's give him honor. Maybe it won't happen.' But that couldn't stop it.] …and made a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. On that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was killed. And Darius the Mede took the kingdom, being about sixty-two-years-old" (vs 25-31).

Dan. 7 adds to the framework that we found with the image. It gives us more definition. Let's come here to the column on our little Appendix Y.

• Daniel 7—first beast like a lion—the Babylonian Empire
• second beast like a bear--the Medes and Persian Empire
• third beast like a leopard with four horns—Alexander the Great

He was one of the most fantastic fighters and tactician in weaponization. They were able with just a few men to destroy the Persian armies.

If you have a chance to watch any of this on the History Channel, you watch it. The Greeks were the first ones who had the shield where you could put your arm through a strap and grab a handle on the back side of it, and the shield would be right in front of you. They had short spears, whereas the Persians had these long spears and they were awkward. They would go in and wipe out the enemy, and they took down the Persian Empire.

• fourth beast is the Roman Empire

Now we have more understanding.

Let me give you another example that's easy to understand: God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt. After all their trials and difficulties, they got to Mt. Sinai. When they got to Mt. Sinai (Exo. 19), God called Moses and said, 'Moses, you go tell the people that IF they will obey Me and obey My voice that they will be to Me a kingdom of priests.' That's a simple statement.

It's like a proposal in marriage, which this was, a covenant. You ask your bride-to-be, 'Will you marry me and we'll have a wonderful life together.' She says, yes, then comes all the details. How many, being married, have had a life like you thought you would when you first agreed to get married? No! Likewise with God! He wants the commitment, just like when we are baptized:

• Do you believe? Yes, I believe!
• Have you repented?' Yes, I've repented!
• Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?' Yes!

Then you're baptized, come out of the water, hands laid on and you feel that this is great. But you have just started. All the details are going to come later. Likewise with understanding prophecy. We're looking at the framework here, which is important.

• there are things that are explained by events
• there are some things that are explained by time

But when it was all over and done with, what did God tell Daniel, when he said, 'What are these?' God said, 'I've got good news for you, Daniel. Here's a whole new scroll which tells you all about it.' NO! He told him, 'After giving all these fantastic prophecies, it's not for you to know the times or the seasons that God has put in His own hands.'

How many other details and different things have come along because of that and then add in to it. You go back in time to Abraham, come forward down to the time of Christ, then come forward out to our time. What is it going to be? Exactly as God has determined! We need to seek out the understanding. God hides it, but He's given the keys in the Bible.

Would you have ever known from Dan. 2—with the two legs and ten toes—that another image would come which would bring you seven heads and ten horns? and cover a period of about 2,500 years? A lot of history can take place in 2,500 years.

Dan. 8: I'll just summarize it; I'll let you read it. We have the he-goat (v 9), which became very great. He was strong, great horn was broken.

This explains it, Daniel 8:20: "The ram which you saw having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia…" No chronology, no history, just the kings of Media and Persia. How many would there be? We're not told! We're not told that it lasted 200 and some odd years.

Verse 21: "And the shaggy goat is the king of Greece…. [I don't think Alexander would be complimented by that] …And the great horn between his eyes is the first king. Now, that being broken, then four stood up in its place; four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not with its power" (vs 21-22).

When he died there was no successor king, so the kingdom was divided—he died in Babylon, by the way—between his four generals. Two of those became the Seleucid, which ended up being the geographical area for the king the north. The Ptolemy's, their geographical area was Egypt.

Dan. 10-11 talks about the King of the North and the King of the South by events. As you read it, you have no idea what the timeframe was.

So, my question to Carl Franklin was this: How many kings of the north were there between each of the events with the struggle going back and forth between the King of the North and the King of the South? None of that is given.

Daniel 11:40: "And at the time of the end… [think of that, 2,500 years later] …the King of the South shall push at him. And the King of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries and shall overflow and sweep through."

We've always read that to mean when the King of the South pushes at him, the King of the North is going to retaliate right away; an assumption that cannot be true. So, we look today at what became probably the push with all of the immigrants coming into Europe. What is that going to lead to? We'll cover that beginning next Sabbath.

Europe is going to have to take care of itself. America will not be there to help Europe! What are they already talking about in Europe right now? 'We need to unify NATO into a European army with a central command.'  Do you think they would have done that on their own without something like this? And looking at America as weak as it is?

If Trump is the next President, you know for sure they're not going to get very much help. Obama hasn't helped them at all. These are the events that are going to set up the final fulfillment of these prophecies.

• How long will it take? We don't know!
• Will the first leader of unified Europe be the beast?

or

• Will he be replaced by another one?
• How many kings of the north will come about before the final one?

The King of the North is going to have to come down in great power and go into Egypt, have overwhelming force. That's not what we're seeing today.

So, if anyone says, 'King of the North/King of the South…' You know what they did when Sadam Hussein was about ready to be taken down? They said he was the King of the South. But that was east and north of Egypt.

When that happened, I said, no, he is not King of the South. The King of the South will be in Egypt. (speculation):

• What will be, perhaps, how are they going to bring stability to the Middle East?
• What's the one country that is Arab and Sunni that has the ability to do it, that is sitting right on the border? Turkey!
• What did they used to occupy? All of that territory in the Ottoman Empire!

They will have a caliphate. But the proper place for the caliphate is not in Syria or in Iraq. The proper place for the caliphate is in Egypt.

We'll add one other thing in there so that we will be able to look forward to this. They are moving closer and closer to doing it. If you want an interesting search online, look up the Temple Institute. They are developing more and more things getting ready for temple worship. We have that little video that we played for you about the temple.

Matthew 24:12: "And because lawlessness shall be multiplied…" Multiplying is like this: if you have a penny on the first day of the month and every day you double the sum of the day. First day you have one penny, so then you add one to it and you have two. The next day you add two pennies to it and you have four. The next day you add four pennies to it and you have eight. The next day you add eight to it and you have sixteen. At the end of the month you have well over a million dollars. I think it's even more than that. That's multiplying. That means some very, very treacherous times. Look at how it's beginning to multiply more and more.

Sidebar on guns: Yesterday afternoon I was watching a special on NatGeo. What is President Obama suggesting? Control guns! He ought to watch NatGeo. They make untraceable 45-caliber handguns in the Philippines, ship them over to Honduras and they make them look like the real thing. They make hundreds of these. They smuggle them into America, into the gangs that are here already. That's why they can have murders with untraceable guns.

So, President Obama, if you want to do something about guns, stop that! But you won't be able to, because this nation is too sinful, filled with so many sins and drugs, problems, fighting and denying God and rejecting God! The fall of America is coming faster. Just like lawlessness multiplies and expands, so the fall will come swifter and swifter. We've got a lot of sins to repent of.

"…lawlessness shall be multiplied, the love of many shall grow cold" (v 12). Isn't that true? Who can you trust? That why we need to learn to love each other. We are all we got, folks!

Verse 13: "But the one who endures to the end, that one shall be saved. And this Gospel of the Kingdom shall be proclaimed in all the world for a witness to all nations; and then shall the end come" (vs 13-14).

Think on this: Dwight Blevins wrote me an e-mail and he said, because most of us here have lived through the demise of Worldwide Church of God. It collapsed because of its corruption. But shortly after its demise, and the scattering of the brethren and raising up of a lot of little bit different churches everywhere, what came on the scene? The Internet, cell phones and media devices, so now the Gospel can be preached in a magnified way.

If there be 1,200 Churches of God, isn't it going to be harder to stamp that out than one major body? Yes, indeed!

• God is in charge!
• He knows what He is doing!

No one can get away with sin and corruption. He's going to do what He wants!

My prayer is that all of the Churches of God will preach the Gospel as powerfully as possible through as many means as possible. Even some of the Protestants have some of the things right.

Verse 15: "'Therefore, when you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the Holy place.'.…" That's why there has to be a second temple.

So, John inserted this parenthetical statement in Rev. 11. Jesus did not say this. John put it there because John knew that the temple was destroyed in 70A.D. and here he's writing the book of Revelation and then canonizing the whole New Testament about 100A.D. How is everybody going to know? John has a vision of the temple. The temple is there, but the temple is gone. So he says:

In Rev. 11:15: "(the one who reads, let him understand)"—because he didn't! He didn't understand. How can there be a Holy Place without a temple? Some people say, 'You can have a blessed designated ground.' No! Do you think the Jews will stand for that? Get a little square there and say, 'We'll bless it with some Holy water and with some wine and with a sacrifice of a couple kid-goats and there's the Holy Place.' No, it's going to be the whole temple.

Why is God going to let them build a temple? For everyone to understand that salvation does not come through physical things!

In v 15 we have "…when…" In v 21 we have "For then…" until the temple is built, the son of perdition, the lawless one (2-Thes. 2) cannot come into the Holy Place to defile it. John also knew that when the temple was destroyed in 70A.D. that the abomination of desolation did not go into the Holy Place.

The closest that came to that was Titus when he got up on the wall of Ft. Antonia and looked down into the temple area and the temple was already being destroyed. He said, 'Only God could have given us this victory.'

Verse 21: "For then shall there be great tribulation…" The temple must be built. The sacrifices re-instituted. How long will that be? We don't know! The Great Tribulation cannot start until that time. We've already covered that. I don't know what number it is in the 14 things, but that has to happen.

• We don't know how many kings of the north there will be.
• We don't know how Europe is going to be organized into the power that it is.
• We don't know exactly how it's going to come together with the Roman Catholic Church and other religions.

I have material on that, too, but it's all going to come together.

There's going to come a time when people of the world will think, 'Finally we have world peace, harmony and cooperation.' Then BANG! It's going to happen.

We don't want to get caught unawares! This is what I'm trying to go over so we can have a broader view of prophecy, so we don't get caught into the trap of thinking that this event happened, so this next event is going to happen right away. It might not.

If we can just keep that in mind, we'll be fine!
